What is Evergreen Content & Why Do You Need it on Your Site?

By October 26, 2017No Comments

Evergreen content serves an important place in all websites and blogs, but if you don’t know what it is, how can you include it in your content? Never fear, today we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about this crucial category of content.

What is Evergreen Content?

Evergreen trees are trees that maintain their foliage all year round. Similar to this concept, evergreen content is content that is relevant without becoming dated.

Huh?

Okay, let me explain in a little more detail…

You write an article for your blog titled “5 WordPress Plugins You Should Be Using”. This content is going to be relevant for the time being, but as time passes and more advanced plugins are released, this content is no longer relevant. Newer plugins are now available that can do the job at a higher level of efficiency, so your article is either obsolete or needs to be updated. This article is NOT evergreen content.

Now, say you write an article for your blog titled “5 Creative Tactics For Creating a Logo”. This content will remain relevant for as long as it’s posted because while there are certainly other techniques that can apply to the same concept, yours are still not obsolete.

Why Should You Post Evergreen Content?

Now that you have a better understanding of what evergreen content is, why should you be using it on your blog and website?

Every website should have dynamic content, but it should also offer content staples that draw readers in on a consistent basis.

For example, using the reference above, when people search for “creative tactics for creating a logo” they are going to find your article and they may even link back to it from their blog. Regardless of how much time passes, people will continue to find this article and actively link to it because it offers valuable information.

Now, your article about WordPress plugins might get searched consistently, but as the content in the article becomes less relevant, fewer people are going to reference or link to this content.

Evergreen content helps to establish your authority in your niche and build backlinks to your content and as you know, both of these things are crucial in establishing your search engine presence.
