Our Web Design Process

Consistency in the Development Process is the Key to Great Website Design

Here at OPM, our web design and development process is one that hinges on consistency. We take a proven framework and use that framework as scaffolding to build your website.

While there are variations and customizations to every web design process that influence the projected completion time for each client, each site that we develop begins with the same framework which is outlined below.

It's important to remember that each step in the web design process is reliant upon the step that comes before it. For this reason, each step must be completed prior to the next step being started.

Phase 1: Foundation

Phase 1: Foundation

Laying a Solid Foundation

The first step in a successful website project is to set down a solid foundation that will allow us to move forward with confidence. To do this, Online Presence Manager, Inc. founder, John, will contact you directly to discuss your short term and long term goals for your company website and to gather information for our WordPress Web Design & Development team. This could be via phone, through email, or with an in-person meeting in our office or at a location that is more convenient for you.

With the information you provide, we will have that solid foundation laid out in no time at all!

Your Brand & Design Preferences

Your Brand & Design Preferences

Shoot Over that Logo! To incorporate your corporate identity into your new website design, we will need you to provide us with high-resolution copies of your company logo as well as any other branding materials you would like incorporated into your site. This important step allows us to tie in your current identity with your new web design!

Don’t have a logo? No problem! We can design one for you!

Points of Reference Let us know of any website designs that you find appealing as well as any that you find particularly unpleasant. This helps us to target your customization to develop a design that fits you and your business.

Website Content & Pictures

Website Content & Pictures

Content is King

Your website copy is just as important as your website design. Our professional copywriters will tailor your new website’s copy to fit your business goals, your values, and most importantly, your products and services! To cater your website copy to your business, you should compile a list of products, services, and features that you would like incorporated as well as any key points that you feel make your business unique.

All of our website copy is original fresh content that is written based on your direction and depending on the length of content that you require, this process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

You may also choose to write your own website copy. If this is the case, we will contact you with a structural layout to guide you in the writing process.

Visual Marketing Matters

Professionally edited photographs go a long way in creating a website that clients can feel comfortable using. If you do not currently have professionally edited photographs that are representative of your business, we can introduce you to a talented photographer or assist you in purchasing professionally edited stock photography.

Your Project Timeline

Your Project Timeline

Establishing a Timeline

With your logo and website copy laid out, we can now set out milestones for the development of the rest of your project. With everything in our hands, we can establish a schedule for the delivery of each milestone in your project. This schedule serves to keep us on track with your project, but it also gives you a better idea of what is happening and when it’s happening.

It’s important that you read over your timeline estimation too, however, because some of the milestones on it will require action from you. If you find a deadline or date that doesn’t work for you, let us know ASAP and we’ll do everything we can to accommodate you.

Phase 2: Design

October 30, 2018

Phase 2: Design

During the design phase of your site, we will create the overall appearance of your website. You will need to approve the overall design concept before we begin developing your site. Your approval ensures that you are happy with your design throughout every step of the design process.

Each of our website development projects will typically include one website design concept with a single minor revision.

Style: We’re talking about colors and fonts. Let us know what colors and fonts you want to use in your design and this style outline will be referenced throughout the entire website building process.

Navigation: It’s also important to establish which top-level and sub-pages your new website will have. These pages will be navigated with the inclusion of a navigation menu.

Wireframe: During this process, we create a full visual representation of what the homepage of your site will look like. This will include your colors, fonts, images, and content. Upon your approval, this will serve as a template for the rest of your website. It’s important that you review the wireframe thoroughly when we provide it and provide us with any feedback and revision requests. When the wireframe has been approved, we begin your website development process.

Phase 3: Development

October 30, 2018

Phase 3: Development

With your design and your website copy and images complete, it’s time to progress on the development of your site according to the wireframe that you approved.

What We Need From You: Any final content and photography that you have not yet provided to us MUST be provided by the beginning of the development stage. Without the necessary content, your website pages cannot be laid out to completion and your project delivery time will be delayed.

Development Preview and Completion of Your Home Page: With the wireframe that you previously approved, we will build out the homepage of your website. Once complete, we will provide you will a private development link that will allow you to preview your website homepage once complete. Once we have finalized the development of your homepage, we will then begin to develop the remaining pages of your site.

Page Buildout: Once your homepage design has been finalized, we will build out your interior website pages. We will send you a preview of 1-2 of these interior pages to give you a better idea of your functioning website navigation.

Complete Website Buildout: When you have approved the layout of the remaining pages of your site design, we will get to work finishing up the remaining pages. When all pages have been built, we will ask you to review them. Any minor changes should be made during this stage, but no major changes should be expected. Any major change requests that are made during this step in the process will result in your project completion deadline being pushed back and increase the cost of your website development.

Feature Integration

October 30, 2018

Feature Integration

This is the phase of your project during which we add in any features that are necessary to the functioning of your site, for example, a private members section, an online store, online booking, online surveys, and contact forms.

Whatever features your website requires, our developers will keep you informed as those features are developed, tested, and implemented on your new site.

Phase 4: Go Live!

October 30, 2018

Phase 4: Go Live!

This is the step in the development process that you have been waiting for! We have completed your website development and are ready to make it “go live”. To implement the fully functioning website design, however, we will require some information from you…

Domain Registration and DNS Hosting: We will need to know where you registered your domain and whether it is hosted with that registrar or whether you use an outside host, or need us to host your site for you. For us to implement a live version of your website, you will have to have access to your domain registrar. (If you’re confused on this step or just don’t understand what we’re talking about, don’t worry, we can help!)

Phase 5: Maintenance & Regular Updates

October 30, 2018

Phase 5: Maintenance & Regular Updates

Now that your new website is live you may think that the design and development process has come to an end, but this is not the case! As your business changes over time, you may need to make changes and we’re here to help.

Minor Changes After Your Website Goes Live: If you notice minor changes that need to be made after your website has been launched, let us know. Within ten days after the launch of your website we will happily complete any small changes for you with no additional charge. If, however, you require new features, new pages, or revisions to your website design, these tasks will be charged as billable time.

Website Access: Depending on the structure and function of your website, you may need to make changes to the website yourself. If your website design included back-end access, we will provide you with log-in information as well as instructions for updating your site as you desire.

Regular Website Updates: If over time you decide that something on your website needs to be edited pick up the phone and give us a call or shoot us an e-mail. We strive to have all edits completed on a reasonable timeline, this timeline will vary based on the size of the changes you request.

We also offer hosting services that incorporate monthly maintenance and development options. If you have not already signed up for one of these maintenance plans but would like to know more, just get in touch!
